On 23 of March 2024 the Australian Government replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant for all student visas (Subclass 500), introducing the new Genuine Student (GS) requirement.

Unlike the former GTE, this new format intends to include students who, after completing their studies, will have skills that are valuable to Australia’s workforce. However, the main purpose of the Subclass 500 is still Academic and conditions remain the same. GS requirement is all about understanding the importance of studying in Australia as the main reason for getting a student visa. This shift from GTE to GS shows that Australia wants to be sure that the people they let in as students are serious about their education. It’s like making sure the right students get the chance to learn and grow in Australia’s amazing educational environment.

But, what are the key questions and criteria that visa applicants need to address:

Your Current Circumstances

When applying to study in Australia, it’s crucial to provide a detailed overview of your current circumstances. This includes information about your family, community ties, employment status, and financial situation. Demonstrating strong connections to your home country helps underscore your intention to return after completing your studies.

Choosing Your Course and Provider in Australia

Clearly articulate why you have selected your specific course and education provider in Australia. Explain your understanding of the course requirements and how this choice aligns with your career goals and future plans. This shows your commitment and clarity about your educational journey.

Benefits of Completing the Course

Illustrate how completing your chosen course will benefit you. Discuss the potential for career advancement, skill enhancement, and personal growth. Highlight how these opportunities will positively impact your future prospects and help you achieve your long-term objectives.

Additional Relevant Information

Include any extra details that support your application and demonstrate your genuineness as a student. This is your opportunity to provide further context and information that strengthens your case for why studying in Australia is the right choice for you.
